From next year, the largest listed companies and SMEs that do significant business with them will have to report the emissions from their cars. This is part of the EU sustainability reporting directive CSRD.

Anton Hentinen is CEO of SmartFleet
Any SME that relies heavily on cars and transport should do so. It will be of concrete use in customer relations and tendering.

The reporting is disappointing. Doing it manually can take hours and cause a few grey hairs.

In this blog, I’ll show you how to do it in ten minutes without a nerve-wracking excel exercise.

What reporting is all about:

The reporting is part of the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

Initially, reporting will apply to companies with more than 500 employees. From 2025, the Directive will also apply to companies that meet two of the following three criteria: they have more than 250 employees, a turnover of more than €40 million or a balance sheet of more than €20 million.

In practice, many smaller companies will already be subject to the reporting obligation from 2024. Companies covered by the Directive will also have to report emissions from their entire value chain, where SMEs often play a significant role.

It is recommended that every SME with a significant role for cars in its operations reports its carbon footprint already for 2024. Reporting will ensure that there is no interruption in cooperation with a large company. It is also an advantage in tenders if the reporting is in order.

This is how you do it:

SmartFleet’s open SaaS-based service makes reporting easy, fast and affordable. You don’t need to be a previous SmartFleet customer because we collect data from public sources.

1. Upload your fleet data to the service. You will automatically receive them from Traficom or SmartFleet’s own database. If you wish, you can also upload them from your own Excel spreadsheet.

2. Check and fill in the mileage of the cars.

3. The service prepares the final report. You can directly publish it as an annex to your financial statements, send it to your stakeholders or publish it on your website. Your business is in good shape.

The service costs 25€ plus VAT per vehicle.

How to access the report:

SmartFleet will release the first version of its emissions reporting SaaS service during the autumn.

The report produced by the SmartFleet service meets the requirements of the EU Commission Directive.
